Gadsden Arts Completes Community Connections Project

In 2018, Gadsden Arts was awarded a Collections Stewardship Grant from the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS) Museums for America program. Thanks to the grant, Gadsden Arts has officially completed upgrades to permanent collection storage in the Margaret M. Thrower Collections Vault. The vault now boasts SmartShelf Shelving for 3D storage, a Textile Art Screen, Montel ModulArt racks for framed artwork storage, and designated sculpture space. The storage capacity of the Thrower Vault has tripled art storage thanks to the new equipment.

Installing the Permanent Collection into the Thrower VaultIn February, Gadsden Arts staff moved the entire Permanent Collection in the Thrower Vault, reserving the smaller Adams Vault for works on loan from private and museum collections. In any museum with a permanent collection, responsible storage of the collection is essential to maintaining the artworks for future generations. At Gadsden Arts Center & Museum, the permanent collection focusing on Southern Vernacular Art receives the utmost care in its preservation. Gadsden Arts looks forward to expanding the permanent collection in order to serve the community through educational and cultural opportunities.
