Statement on Passage of Senate Bill 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

Florida TaxWatch President and CEO Dominic M. Calabro made the following statement regarding the passage of Senate Bill 10 -

With the passage of Senate Bill 10 yesterday, the state can now begin to address the Everglades problem. This is a huge win for taxpayers, the environment and the state as a whole as the long-term damage of ignoring this would have exponentially ballooned the costs of the crisis, as shown in Florida TaxWatch’s research research. It is also a tremendous victory for property owners as the bill prevents the use of eminent domain and will allow this process to move forward in a collaborative manner.

We commend the Legislature, and particularly Senate President Joe Negron, for working on and passing this bill to quell the discharges from Lake Okeechobee and save the future of our waterways, economy and health of Floridians.”
