Statement on Major Victory for Florida's Tax Credit Scholarship Program and our Students

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - This morning, the Florida Supreme Court declined to hear the teacher’s union lawsuit attacking Florida’s tax credit scholarship program. This is a huge victory for Florida families. These scholarships provide lower income families, most of whom are minorities, the opportunities to receive a high quality education and are funded through donations from businesses across the state.

Educating our children, particularly those who do not have the same opportunities as others, is crucial in ensuring that they can go on to college, earn a degree and begin a career that offers them prosperity and success. These tax credit scholarships give parents’ options to help boost their children’s educational prospects. With the lawsuit officially over, the state does not have to continue to spend taxpayer dollars on what could have been an expensive battle at the Supreme Court.

Florida TaxWatch applauds the Supreme Court’s decision and we will continue to work on behalf of Florida families to find innovative policy solutions to the many challenges we face in education.
