Florida Taxwatch State Of The Taxpayer Dinner Shines A Spotlight On Taxpayers In The 2016 Legislative Session

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On January 13, Florida TaxWatch, an independent nonpartisan research institute, held its State of the Taxpayer Dinner highlighting the issues affecting Florida taxpayers during the 2016 Legislative Session. The sold-out event attracted more than 140 taxpayers, business and community leaders, and lawmakers.

Attendees heard from Florida’s top elected officials including Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, Senate President Andy Gardiner, Joint Legislative Auditing Committee Chairman Dan Raulerson and Senate Finance and Tax Committee Chairman Dorothy Hukill, all of whom laid out their goals and objectives for the next 56 days of session with a focus on serving the Sunshine State’s taxpayers.

“The State of the Taxpayer Dinner is truly the one and only event that captures what the Legislative Session is about: Florida taxpayers,” said Florida TaxWatch President and CEO Dominic M. Calabro. “Florida TaxWatch looks forward to working with the Legislature and Florida Cabinet to ensure that the goals highlighted are reached during the 2016 Legislative Session.”

"It's great to have the prudent eye of Florida TaxWatch watching over us in case government gets a little out of hand," said Commissioner Putnam. "I look forward to working on behalf of Florida taxpayers during the 2016 Legislative Session."

“The Florida TaxWatch State of the Taxpayer Dinner is a great preview of the upcoming legislative session as seen through the lens of the taxpayer,” said CFO Atwater. “We all have a shared responsibility to take ownership of our state’s future, and I look forward to once again working with the Legislature on several items I feel strongly about.”

“As legislators, our number one objective is to be good stewards of Florida taxpayers’ money and pass a responsible, balanced budget,” said Speaker of the Florida House Steve Crisafulli. “This Session, we will continue to find ways to make government more efficient and effective, provide significant tax relief to Florida families, strengthen the long-term financial health of our state by passing pension reform, and work to empower our citizens with the tools they need for success.”

“I was glad to share the evening with like-minded tax-cutters and talk about my vision for the 2016 Session as the #TaxCutChamp,” said Senator Hukill.
