College Football Success Could Yield More Academically Competitive Universities

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – College football victories are associated with better student recruitment, according to a recent report from Florida TaxWatch. The Economic Commentary highlights the residual academic benefits experienced by universities with winning sports teams. The report says schools with winning teams also attract more students, and bolster retention and graduation rates.

“Boosting graduation rates at each Florida University would result in a more highly educated workforce,” said Robert Weissert, Senior VP for Research at Florida TaxWatch. “Reducing the number of students dropping out of Florida colleges means a better prepared workforce, and could reduce unemployment in the Sunshine State.”
