Florida TaxWatch Releases The Taxpayers' Guide to Florida’s FY2021-22 State Budget

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida TaxWatch (FTW) released The Taxpayers’ Guide to Florida’s FY2021-22 State Budget, providing an overview of Florida’s $101.7 billion FY2021-22 State Budget, which was approved by the Florida Legislature, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis on June 2, 2021, and took effect today, July 1, 2021. The record budget contains a $9.4 billion increase in current spending – a 10.2 percent growth – including $6.9 billion in additional federal Medicaid and education funds.

FTW’s guide, along with other research and analysis, can be found on the Florida Budget Hub, an indispensable web-based resource that allows Floridians to understand where and how government spends their hard-earned tax dollars.

Florida TaxWatch President and CEO Dominic M. Calabro said, “Despite the financial strain and uncertainty brought on by the pandemic, which had us looking at a projected $3+ billion shortfall when the Legislature started its budget exercise, we are now operating under Florida’s first $100+ billion budget. As the state’s leading taxpayer research institute and government watchdog, we are happy to provide taxpayers across the state with this detailed analysis and historical context. The Budget Guide is designed to provide every Floridian a better understanding of the state’s finances and how it will impact them, their families, and their communities.”
