Today, Florida TaxWatch (FTW) announced the appointment of Tony Carvajal as Executive Vice President. Mr. Carvajal succeeds Robert Weissert who is moving to Washington, D.C. to pursue the next chapter of his career after 14 great years with the taxpayer research institute. Along with Mr. Carvajal, TaxWatch also welcomes Carolyn Gosselin as Chief Growth and Strategy Officer, Tanya Bechtold as Director of Investor Relations, and Kat Dunn as Digital Content Manager. Florida TaxWatch is also announcing the promotions of Kurt Wenner and Bob Nave to Senior Vice Presidents of Research and Chris Barry to Vice President of Communications.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida TaxWatch (FTW) released its latest report, The Aftermath of COVID-19: Rethinking How the State Delivers Services to Floridians In Need, offering an independent analysis of the shortcomings of the current state-administered, federal safety net programs, especially Florida’s Reemployment Assistance (Unemployment Insurance) program known as CONNECT.
In the 2020 legislative session, SB 712 (The Clean Waterways Act) was passed outlining protection to much of Florida’s vast water resources, including implementing Florida TaxWatch recommendations for the Blue-Green Algae Task Force. Water is Florida’s most valuable resource, providing many environmental, economic, and recreational benefits the public. With more than 7,700 lakes, 10,550 miles of rivers, more than 1,000 springs, and 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline, it is a staple of Florida’s identity and one of the key reasons so many people visit the Sunshine State. The Clean Waterways Act addresses several environmental issues, including several provisions focused on water quality improvement and oversight.

The report highlights the state’s manufacturing industry and its impact on the economy, details industry challenges and strategies proposed to confront them, and presents policy and business recommendations for continued manufacturing growth and prosperity in Florida.
Florida TaxWatch recently convened some of Florida’s top educational leaders to discuss improving the leadership in our public school principals and today a summary report of that discussion in available publicly. The summary report , released today, includes the discussed strategies, a review of related educational literature, and a number of takeaways for consideration by policymakers and education professionals.

On March 8, Florida TaxWatch, an independent nonpartisan research institute, held its State of the Taxpayer Dinner highlighting the issues affecting Florida taxpayers during the 2017 Legislative Session. In its second year, the sold-out, standing room only State of the Taxpayer Dinner attracted more than 150 taxpayers, business and community leaders and lawmakers.
