It is my distinct pleasure to serve as Chairman of the 2001Davis Productivity Awards program, and I congratulate each of you on your commitment to excellence and your dedication to the State of Florida.

Rewarding hard work, and recognizing initiative and creativity is central to maintaining a successful state government. For thirteen years, the Davis Productivity Awards program has encouraged excellence among state employees by spotlighting achievements like yours that significantly improve services and save the state money.

As Commissioner of Education from 1995-99, a number of our employees were honored with Davis Productivity Awards for their innovations that ensured a safe and productive learning environment for Florida's children I witnessed the pride that these employees felt at being recognized by outside organizations such as Florida TaxWatch and The Florida Council of 100. I trust that you too will take great pride in receiving such a prestigious award.
